IPAS Indonesia Promotes Integration of Violence against Women Services through ARUNIKA Project

Comprehensive and holistic access for women victims of violence is part of Reproductive Justice. Since 2018, IPAS Indonesia has continued to partner with a number of parties to make this happen. One of the efforts is through the ARUNIKA project (Empowered Women for a Violence-Free Indonesia) which was launched in Semarang in November 2024.

In April 2025, Yayasan IPAS Indonesia, through the ARUNIKA project invited various parties such as the police, health department, community health centers, legal aid agencies and the Office of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection. The purpose of this meeting was to encourage integrated services for victims of violence.

Executive Director of the IPAS Indonesia, Dr. Marcia Soumokil MPH, said that the experience of victims of violence when they first access health services is very crucial because it will affect the next process.

“Why is it important to ensure timely services to victims? Because this is very important for medical interventions such as sexually transmitted infections, especially HIV prevention. So it’s very important for victims,” she emphasized.

Head of the Public Health Division of the Central Java Provincial Health Office Yuni Rahayuningtyas, S.KM., M.Kes. added, health service facilities are one of the entry points for victims of violence.

“Puskesmas are expected to have competence in providing services for victims of violence againts women. Hopefully we will have more [hospitals and health centers] for this KtPA. Then if we can detect it, it should also be better when making referrals,” she added.

In Central Java, she emphasized, the highest cases of violence occurred in Semarang City. “Maybe we need to say that the more we train and the public knows when they become victims how they can access this service, hopefully the more open the reports will be,” he said.

In this meeting, the participants received presentations from resource persons Karolabdokkes Pusdokkes Polri, Brigadier General Pol.Dr.Sumy Hastry Purwanti, Sp.F, DFM, Dr. Boge Priyo Nugroho, Sp.FM, Head of Integrated Service Center of RSUD Tarakan Jakarta and Raden Rara Ayu Hermawati Sasongko, Director of LBH APIK Semarang.
