Questions related to IPAS Indonesia Foundation

Yayasan Inisiatif Perubahan Akses menuju Sehat (IPAS) Indonesia is a non-governmental organization incorporated and registered with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia. IPAS Indonesia Foundation strives to realize Reproductive Justice in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations in Indonesia.
There are three main principles that IPAS Indonesia Foundation strives for in realizing Reproductive Justice:
- The right to have children and to decide how to bear them.
- The right not to have children includes access to options to terminate or prevent pregnancy in accordance with dignity and applicable law.
- The right to raise children in a safe environment free from violence and oppression.
We believe Indonesia is moving towards Reproductive Justice. Even so, a study conducted by IPAS Indonesia Foundation with a number of partners shows that legal certainty, access services and public awareness of reproductive health still need to be improved to realize Reproductive Justice.
Then, there is still a stigma for women who decide to terminate their pregnancy even though the procedure is carried out safely and according to the rules. This situation is exacerbated by gender inequality and other social injustices that greatly affect the fulfillment of reproductive rights for women and adolescent girls. The absence of ideal conditions is what drives IPAS Indonesia Foundation to fight for Reproductive Justice.
We focus on women (aged 25-60 years old) and young women (aged 19-24 years old) especially in the field of:
- Gender equality
- Promotion of evidence-based policies
- Miscarriage stigma
- Post miscarriage care services
- Contraception
- Research
- Climate justice

IPAS Indonesia Foundation believes that termination of pregnancy due to medical indications and pregnancy resulting from rape or other sexual violence, in accordance with laws and regulations, is part of Reproductive Justice. However, the termination of pregnancy must be done safely and expertly and in accordance with Indonesian laws and regulations.
IPAS Indonesia Foundation does not provide reproductive health services such as contraception and so on. Our focus is on working with health workers, public health facilities and relevant stakeholders to realize Reproductive Justice by providing technical support and capacity building.
Operationally and in carrying out projects to realize Reproductive Justice, IPAS Indonesia Foundation operates independently in accordance with the Indonesian Foundation Law. However, IPAS Indonesia Foundation is part of the Ipas Impact Network, an Ipas network spread across five continents that shares the same commitment and passion in realizing Reproductive Justice. Although it does not have legal power or is only a collective agreement, this network is very important as a forum for sharing strategies in fighting for Reproductive Justice.
We realize that fighting for Reproductive Justice requires considerable resources including financial. In obtaining funding, IPAS Indonesia Foundation adapts to the regulations and laws that apply in Indonesia.
IPAS Indonesia Foundation partners range from government agencies, such as the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia & BKKBN, private organizations, professional associations in the health sector, academics and researchers, non-governmental organizations, religious organizations, and communities.
We started the project in a number of districts/cities in Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, East Nusa Tenggara, and Central Sulawesi. Even so, our big goal is that projects with the aim of realizing Reproductive Justice can be carried out in all regions of Indonesia. Because we believe that Reproductive Justice is the right of every Indonesian citizen.
We are open to various forms of cooperation to realize Reproductive Justice because IPAS Indonesia Foundation is a Partner for Reproductive Justice. For more information, please contact via this link
