Through the ARUNIKA program (Empowered Women for a Violence-Free Indonesia), IPAS Indonesia Foundation conducted assessments in 12 health facilities in Central Java. This activity was carried out at the ARUNIKA project sites in Surakarta, Sukoharjo and Semarang.
The activity, which took place from January 22 to February 27, 2025, aims to see how far the readiness of health facilities is in providing health services for Victims of Gender and Sexual Based Violence (GBV). This service is an important key to the ARUNIKA program so that victims can get the right and access to health to recover.
This assessment was conducted in two stages. The first is the data collection from the questionnaire that has been filled out by the health facility. Then, the second stage is the interview part. This session explores how service providers experience in dealing with victims of GBV.
A number of officers said they often handle victims of GBV. However, the majority have never attended training on handling violence. In addition, most health facilities also do not have documents related to how health services for victims of GBV are carried out.

Dr. Henny Puspitosari Utama, Head of the Kartasura Health Center in Surakarta, said that her office often handles cases of GBV. In addition, he admitted that he had collaborated with a number of parties at the RT / RW, village or sub-district level in handling it.
“We are grateful that we can work closely together, so as to deal with the problem of violence, which certainly cannot be solved by one health sector alone,” she added.
The data collected in this assessment will be the basis for preparing health facilities to provide services to victims of GBV. This includes increasing the capacity of service providers.
Head of Sibela Health Center in Surakarta, Dr. Haryanti Katrini Mulyaningrum, emphasized that her party welcomes the plans in the ARUNIKA Program. “Such as training for health workers. One form of our commitment is manifested by our initiative through a decree of the head of the health center regarding the KtPA (Violence against Women and Children) Management Team at Sibela Health Center,” she said.
