The ARUNIKA project (Empowered Women for a Violence-Free Indonesia) was launched in November 2024. One of the objectives of this project is to strengthen health services for victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in three locations in Central Java: Surakarta, Sukoharjo and Semarang.
To start the project, the ARUNIKA team conducted a whole site orientation at 12 health facilities included in the project area. This activity took place from February 18 to 27, 2025. Whole site orientations are introductory sessions and project plans specifically for healthcare providers. The main purpose of this activity is to build understanding of the project and explain the roles of health facility personnel until the project ends in 2027.
Director of RSUD Dr. Gunawan Mangunkusumo Ambarawa, Dr. Hasti Wulandari, M.KM hoped that this activity could strengthen the institution in providing services for victims of GBV.
“We hope that the ARUNIKA Program can help strengthen the existing KtPA (Violence Against Women and Children) Team at Gunawan Mangunkusumo Hospital in handling KtPA more comprehensively, and we are committed to fully support this program,” said dr. Gunawan.

Meanwhile, Family Health and Nutrition Staff of Semarang Regency Health Office Vina Dhian highly appreciates this activity. According to her, this whole site orientation provides an overview of the ARUNIKA program.
“We will continue to support and be ready to oversee the next planned activities, including the KtPA (Violence Against Women and Children) training and we will coordinate and encourage health facilities to be able to provide quality KtPA services,” she added.
In addition to the introduction of the program, the participants were invited to explore the values and beliefs of each individual to find out their influence in providing services.
Recognizing this value is important because there are still many service providers who are influenced by their own values such as religion and culture in providing health services to victims of GBV. Services should be provided based on the needs and wishes of victims in accordance with existing regulations.
